  • Brink - The top point of a waterfall where the water falls, also known as the crest (World Waterfall Database).
  • Caprock - A overlaying section of rock that is more weather resistant than the rock formations underneath it. Waterfalls dropping over a caprock are commonly classified as a plunge, block, or curtain waterfall formation (World Waterfall Database).
  • Cascade Waterfall - A waterfall formation that descends over sloping rocks like a series of stair steps in a quick flow or a rugged sloping surface of some kind. Cascades can be either steep or gradual (World Waterfall Database).
  • Fault - A crack in the surface of the Earth's crust that results in the displacement of one lithospheric plate (or rock body) relative to another (Discovering Physical Geography).
  • Frost Wedging - The process of expanding and contracting of water cracks of rocks due to freezing and thawing (Discovering Physical Geography).
  • Metamorphic Rock - The rocks formed when igneous, sedimentary, or other metamorphic rocks are put under extreme pressure and heat.
  • Plunge Pool - A pool formed at the base of a waterfall by hydraulic erosion (World Waterfall Database).
  • Sedimentary Rock - Rocks that are formed through the deposition and lithification of small pieces or dissolved substances from other rocks, or sometimes marine animals (Discovering Physical Geography).
